William Walker Atkinson (December 5, 1862 – November 22, 1932) was a prolific author and an influential figure in the New Thought movement. He was also known for his work as an attorney, merchant, publisher, and occultist. Atkinson wrote around 100 books over the last 30 years of his life, many under pseudonyms such as Theron Q. Dumont and Yogi Ramacharaka1.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Atkinson began his career as a grocer at the age of 15. He later pursued a business career and was admitted as an attorney to the Bar of Pennsylvania in 1894. Despite achieving material success, he suffered a complete physical and mental breakdown, as well as financial disaster. His recovery, which he attributed to the principles of New Thought, led him to write extensively on the subject1.
Atkinson’s writings cover a wide range of topics, including mental science, personal magnetism, psychic influence, thought-force, concentration, will-power, and practical mental science. He was also deeply interested in Hinduism and yoga, which is reflected in his works under the pseudonym Yogi Ramacharaka. His books have remained in print more or less continuously since 1900, reflecting their enduring popularity and influence
