One of my most favorite Quotes!
Each of us tends to think we see things as they are, that we are objective. But this is not the case.
We see the world not as it is but as we are–or, as we are conditioned to see it.
That is indeed a profound quote. It is often attributed to Anaïs Nin, who wrote in her book “Seduction of the Minotaur”: “We don’t see things as they are; we see them as we are.”
This statement was also linked to a Talmudic origin, suggesting a deep philosophical and spiritual understanding of perception.
Additionally, Stephen R. Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” has used a similar expression: “We see the world, not as it is, but as we are—or, as we are conditioned to see it.”
This reflects the idea that our perceptions are shaped by our own experiences and mindset.
It’s a powerful reminder of how our internal states, beliefs, and conditioning can filter our experiences of the external world.
