Thomas Troward (October 14, 1846 – May 18, 1916) was an English author and a significant figure in the New Thought Movement as well as mystic Christianity. He served as a divisional Judge in Punjab, British-administered India, and his study of comparative religion greatly influenced his writings¹.

After retiring from the judiciary in 1896, Troward focused on applying logic and a judicial approach to the study of cause and effect, particularly in matters of mental science and philosophy. His works, such as “The Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science” and “The Creative Process in the Individual,” are considered classics in New Thought literature¹.

William James, a renowned philosopher, praised Troward’s “Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science” for its clarity of thought and style. Troward’s teachings also had a notable influence on the early members of Alcoholics Anonymous, who were encouraged to read his lectures¹.

Troward’s only personal student was Geneviève Behrend, who studied with him from 1912 until 1914. His philosophical insights continue to be a source of inspiration in the fields of metaphysics and spiritual realization
